FAQ

Questions? I’ve got answers!

What’s a birth doula?

A birth doula is a non-clinical support person who can offer physical and emotional support during your labor and birth. Birth doulas honor, respect and value your birth preferences. They make sure your voice is always heard and respected in your birthing room. Birth doulas always accept your choices. They are a reassuring voice and presence. They are a source of evidence based birthing information. Birth doulas help foster healthy conversations between you, your care provider and L&D nurse. Physical support comes in the form of counter pressure to offset the feeling of a surge, a hand to hold, a shoulder to cry on, intentional movement for comfort and progress, and massage. Birth doulas support partners as well!

What is HypnoBirthing?

HypnoBirthing is as much a philosophy as it is a technique. It is a rewarding, relaxing, stress-free method of birthing that is based on the belief that all babies should come into the world in an atmosphere of gentility, calm, and joy. When a mother is properly prepared for birthing physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually, she can experience that sort of joy. Birthing her baby is easier, more comfortable, and often even pain-free. This is a well thought out program that includes several ways of learning in addition to meditative scripts. We are imprinting positive messages into the brain that can be called upon instinctively during labor and birth.

HypnoBirthing reconnects a woman with the art of birthing that she already possesses. She will be able to summon her natural birthing instincts and birth her baby safely and with ease.

What’s the difference between a group and private HypnoBirthing class?

Group classes give you the advantage of mingling and connecting with other Moms, Dads, and birth companions like you. There is nothing better than forming a tribe of like-minded HypnoBirthing families! Group class members are invited to a private Facebook group to stay in touch, share tips, plan gatherings, and ask questions.

Private classes offer one-on-one attention from Aly, your HypnoBirthing Certified Educator. Private classes always move quicker, which leaves more time for meditation, affirmation, and script practice. We will hold these classes in the comfort of your own home or a private meeting place.

What should I bring to class?

Snacks and beverages. Feel free to eat during class - I encourage it!  We will take a few quick breaks to use the bathroom and stretch our legs.

We will also be building “nests” for our relaxation practice. Please bring several pillows. Feel free to bring a body pillow.

How should I dress for class?

Comfortable and relaxed. I already live in yoga pants, so join me! Bring a zip up or sweater just in case our meeting place is chilly.

How many birth companions can I bring to class with me?

Your class fee covers you and one birth companion. If your birth companion can’t make it, you can bring someone else that is close to you. You are more than welcome to come alone! I am here to support you through this experience.

What if I have to miss a class?

I will do everything in good faith to meet with you before the next class to get you up to speed. This will depend on my schedule availability. All 5 classes should be considered essential and part of your schedule.

When is my payment due? How can I pay?

Payment is due before the first class session in order to receive your supplies and goodie bag before the first class.

Can I cancel and get my money back?

Yes, I appreciate as much notice in advance of the first class of your intent to cancel. No refunds are allotted once classes begin, but parents can choose to roll over payment to attend another class session or upgrade to private classes at your convenience. If you experience a loss, a full refund will be given.

Can I bring my children to class?

No, HypnoBirthing classes are for the birthing person and their birth companion only. You are welcome to bring support persons like a mom, friend, sister, etc if your main birth companion cannot attend.

I currently do not offer child care during HypnoBirthing classes. Please plan ahead so you can focus on you and your baby.
